"Aircraft endurance was more than enough to allow for 7 sets BVR plus IFR alternate gas... Awesome training... Very successful... Outstanding! Great asset... Pilot knowledge and experience allowed easy integration into red package."
– F/A-18 Hornet Pilots
Our Hunters are flown by former NATO fighter pilots with experience in fourth and fifth generation fighters such as F-15, F/A-18 and Rafale aircraft. We are capable of safely and properly simulating opposing forces in virtually any capacity. Truly able to attain speeds of up to 600 knots, even with external fuel tanks, and able to pull 7.5 G’s, the Hunter’s performance, size and maneuverability is ideal in the hands of an experienced fighter pilot with the knowledge and skill to conduct valuable and realistic air defence and air combat training. Depending on the required configuration, on-station training time can be from 1.5 to 3 hours.

The Hunter has several interesting capabilities regarding air-to-air training: tracking pod, threat emitter, jammer, air-to-air gunnery, chaff, flare, radar warning receiver. Our Hunters always have the endurance to take off before and land after the training fighters, providing the maximum training value per sortie.
As aggressors, the Hunters can simulate strikers or air-to-air fighters, or anything else you wish. We can provide a cooperative training aid for basic fighter pilot training in air interception or air combat training. In more advanced exercises, we can be part 2 v 2’s, 4 v 4’s, etc., to increase training value. In large force exercises such as Red Flag, Maple Flag or Fighter Weapons Instructor courses, we can augment the opposing force in any capacity.
For both pilots and air weapon controllers conducting intercept training, the Hunters can accurately supply interception targets, flying at high or low speeds at high or low altitudes, and in any weather, for up to 2.5 hours on station.
Since all our efforts are dedicated to the client’s training, we accommodate whatever requests or profiles are required to attain the needs of the fighters and controllers. Military aircraft and personnel never have to sacrifice their own training and they can conduct fighter exercises with the confidence that highly experienced and properly trained professional fighter pilots are providing the simulated enemy.
"Air support was excellent and vital to improving skills and abilities."
– Commander, Canadian Fleet Pacific
"Naval staff continually described the performance of Lortie Aviation as excellent and their mission flight profiles as highly realistic. Flexibility and accurate mission execution helped to ensure that all the exercise training objectives were met."
– Canadian Forces Mission Performance Review Report
"Naval commanders repeatedly described tactical presentations as threat representative."
– Canadian Forces Contractor Coordination Officer
"Level of support was outstanding...Pilots were tactically sound....Excellent training....Aircraft remained approximately 45 minutes past off-station time to conduct extra training...Very many thanks."
– HMCS Regina
The Hunters help train navy crews in defensive tactics and weapons employment against specified threats. We use our Hawker Hunters to provide realistic simulation of fighter/attack aircraft and anti-ship missiles as well as live-fire target towing. All our aircraft are capable of jamming, chaff and flares, and employing threat emitters as requested, in any weather, day or night.
Our special Hunter’s speed and endurance is well suited for these roles. Typically, our Hunters carry enough fuel to stay aloft for 2 to 3 hours when carrying electronic warfare pods. This normally allows for 1.5 to 2.5 hours of on-station training time and the capability to provide 6 or more high-speed, 40-mile attack profiles, even at low altitude, typically at 480 knots, but also up to 600 knots, even with external tanks, for simulated attacks and missile launches, depending upon the required configuration.
"The use of Hawker Hunters was extremely successful and should be used as the priority for this course in the future....a playtime of 90 minutes provided the course staff with significant flexibility...2 live fire plans with the same sortie....extremely flexible to meet our aims....willing to react to change with little notice....Time separation, altitude and lateral separation were all practiced - something they would not have achieved had we used CF-18s....the benefit and realism and coordination far outweighed the benefits of dropping live munitions."
– Royal Canadian Artillery School – NATO Close Air Support Training
The Hunter was widely employed in air-to-ground attack roles during its military service. Our Hunters are configured for remarkable endurance and high-speed capability, ideal for training army personnel in the conduct of operations with fighter and attack aircraft over the battlefield. This includes simulating enemy aircraft for the training of air defence forces as well as accurately replicating fighter/attack aircraft conducting close air support for the training of forward air controllers.
While we do not release any actual armament, highly experienced ex-military pilots fly our jets and are capable of realistically simulating current attack procedures, profiles, tactics, communications and performance. Unlike military crews, all our flying time is dedicated to carrying out the client’s requested training, so we never need to conduct our own training while supporting the ground forces. Due to the proficiency of our pilots and our focus on the client’s needs, the greatest advantage is the significantly increased training value per flight hour that greatly accelerates the progress of any course.
We deploy our Hunters near the operating areas and remain on station for approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the mission profile. With the option of having continuous Hunter presence by means of multiple aircraft launches, any course can be conducted much more rapidly with our participation.
